HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) - Hawaii News Now is issuing a First Alert Weather Day on Wednesday for Hawaii Island as Tropical Cyclone Calvin passes over the island chain.

A tropical storm warning remains up for Hawaii County.

The National Weather Service has also issued these other alerts:

  • A flood advisory is in effect for parts of Hawaii Island.
  • A flood watch for all islands.
  • A high wind warning for Maui County, starting at 6 p.m.
  • A wind advisory for Oahu and Kauai.
  • And a high surf warning for east-facing shores of Hawaii Island and Maui County.

Residents are being urged to stay prepared and monitor the latest forecasts.

Here’s everything you should have in your emergency hurricane supply kit

Here’s what you need to know:
  • Hawaii Island is expected to begin seeing tropical storm conditions on Tuesday night.
  • NWS reports 3-hour rainfall totals for the Big Island, and upwards of 2 inches of rain has fallen as of 10 p.m. Tuesday along the windward coast.
  • Rainfall totals for elsewhere in the state are expected to be 1 to 4 inches.
  • The heavy rains could lead to localized flash flooding and mudslides.
  • Calvin is also expected to generate big swells, with a rapid increase of surf expected Tuesday. The high surf warning is in effect from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 6 p.m. Wednesday.
